The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with the unique aspects of women’s physiology and to examine how taking this into consideration may be effective for optimizing exercise testing and prescription in women. Upon the completion of the course, students should be able to make use of evidence-based materials to improve exercise testing and prescription in women (both athletes and recreationally active). Topics include the physiological effects of the menstrual cycle on exercise and performance, how hormonal contraceptive use may influence a woman’s physiology, evidenced-based strategies to optimize strength and endurance training for women, and sport technology for women.
