Free choice course (5 credits) which consists of approximately 60 hours of lectures plus independent study, individual or group assignments and a final exam.

The objective of the course is to introduce the student to the study of Italian language and culture. Students will learn to communicate in Italian using short conversations on topics concerning everyday situations of life. Additionally, students will get to know about different aspects of Italian culture and customs.

There are various language teaching approaches in which teachers and students are interested, such as deductive, inductive, structuralistic and cognitive. The teacher will try to apply affective-humanistic and communicative approach. The founding hypothesis is that language teaching methods which contrast "old" with "new" are a detriment to teaching. Therefore, we will base our studies on innovative models as well as on traditional grammar practices.

Languages cannot be taught, but conditions can be created for the students to learn. The teacher acts as a guide to motivate them, but they are responsible for their own learning process.

Distant teaching will somehow limit learning activities. Nevertheless we still will focus on pair-work, group-work, role-plays, readings, individual writing, games, movie, music etc.

By the end of the course the students will be able to interact in areas of immediate personal relevance and participate in basic conversations.
